The purpose of the Christchurch Coastal Pathway Group is to promote and facilitate the creation and use of an international-standard coastal pathway from Ferrymead to Scarborough Beach, Sumner for the benefit of the people and city of Christchurch.

 
 

We’re completing the Pathway’s final section now. Here’s a fly-through video of what the Moncks Bay esplanade will look like. Fulton Hogan is contracted to work on this section now. More information here

Recreation for everyone

This multi purpose facility promotes health, fitness and sustainable transport. There are lots of things to see and do along the esplanade. Running, cycling, skateboarding, walking, kayaking, surfing, windsurfing and birdwatching.

Nature's habitat

The estuary is a significant habitat for a high diversity of bird life and migratory birds, there is also an abundance of marine species. The pathway includes storm water management systems and native planting helps provide increased habitat for local and migratory wildlife.

Economic regeneration

The pathway is a significant and accessible outdoor recreational development in Canterbury- a beautiful esplanade. The pathway is tracking to become the second most visited attraction in the city, after the Botanic Gardens attracting an estimated 1 million plus users a year.

For the people

The pathway is a new icon of our rebuilt city and a compelling reason to visit and stay. The pathway links back to the CBD, providing locals and tourists with a unique way to explore the city. The pathway also link to many other tracks and attractions.
